The Crèvecoeur is an old French breed not unlike a Houdan, but having a horn-type comb, four toes and heavier, broad, square built body and bold upright carriage.
General characteristics: male
Carriage: Bold and upright.
Type: Body large, broad and practically square. Well rounded breast. Flat back. Large well folded wings. Full tail carried moderately high.
Head: Skull large, with a decidedly pronounced protuberance on top. Crest full and compact, round on top and not divided or split, inclined slightly backwards fully to expose the comb, not in any way obstructing the sight except from behind, composed of feathers similar to those of the hackles, and at the ends almost touching the neck. Beak strong and well curved. Eyes full. Comb of the horn type (V shaped), of moderate size, upright and against the crest, each branch smooth (free from tines) and tapering to a point. Face muffed, the muffling full and deep, extending to the back of the eyes, hiding the lobes and face. Earlobes small but not exposed. Wattles moderately long.
Neck: Long and graceful, thickly furnished with hackle feathers.
Legs and Feet: Wide apart, short and the shanks free from feathers. Toes, four, straight and long.
Female
With the exception of the crest, which must be of globular shape and almost concealing the comb, the general characteristics are similar to those of the male, allowing for the natural sexual differences.
BANTAM
Crèvecoeur bantams should follow the large fowl standard.
